Home Learning and Assessement
Home Learning
We recognise the fundamental importance of home learning and it is used to promote independent learning skills, encourage student organisation and provide opportunities for parents to engage with our curriculum. Evidence demonstrates that home learning has a positive impact on average (+5 months more progress in a secondary setting). As a result, we aim to set clear and precise home learning which compliments the curriculum offered within school. In order to help with student organisation, we have created a home learning timetable which clearly shows when work should be set. In addition, we offer study hall in our Learning Resource Centre(LRC) every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school, providing students with a quiet place to complete their home learning.
Assessment
Teachers use a range of strategies to assess pupils and they are constantly monitoring the progress that it made. In order to make effective judgements on pupil attainment and progress, we use a number of summative assessments across the academic year; some will be in class and some will take place in examination conditions within the sports hall. In order to support pupils in doing their best in each assessment, teachers will ensure that appropriate revision materials are provided and these should be used at home to prepare for the test.
We've put together an Assessments Calendar per Year Group to help you understand the home learning requirements and support your child better. Please take a moment to review :
