PRESS RELEASE: 16th August 2018

George Green’s continue their upward trajectory of success by securing outstanding results and top university offers

George Green’s School is delighted to share the excellent results achieved by International Baccalaureate (IB) and BTEC students this year; 82% of BTEC students achieved A*-E and 78% of students one or more A*/A equivalent grades in their IB.

In recent years the Sixth Form has gone from strength to strength, and year-on-year improvement in attainment levels have seen a vast increase in applications. Historically, students have studied the IB Diploma programme but following consultation, the school has taken the decision to offer A-Levels only from September.

Principal Jill Baker commented: “Students’ achievements have come as a direct result of their endless determination to attain excellence. I am incredibly proud of all that they have accomplished, and praise them for seizing every opportunity offered to them to further support their exams and enrich their experience at George Green’s. I would like to thank our committed team and wish all of our leavers every success in the future. We look forward to welcoming them back as part of our elite alumni group”.

In addition to the individual successes celebrated today, notable collective highlights include:

  • 91% of students passed the IB; compared to worldwide pass rate of 78.4% (2017) and a 4% increase on the 2017 school result.
  • 16% of all entries achieved A*/A grades.
  • 12 IB subjects taught at GGS achieved above the worldwide average, including: Chinese, English, Mathematics, Philosophy and Biology.
  • BTEC Business students benefitted from exposure to the City via the school’s extensive links with global businesses, such as Barclays and Morgan Stanley. This additional support has seen 28.5% achieving higher than their predicted grades
  • Many students celebrate outstanding university offers, including unconditional offers at Queen Mary University and University of Greenwich.

Following impressive results in her IB, Parissa will be attending Nottingham University in September to study Pharmacy and further explore her passion for charity, a desire ingrained in her as a result of taking part in the Community and Service programme at GGS Sixth Form. “Attending the sixth form has shaped me into an independent, disciplined and responsible individual and provided the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects, with the support of my teachers at every step of my diploma programme”.

Many students will now be going on to university to study sought-after courses including Accounting and Management, International Business with Languages and Corporate Law. High achiever Ubah stated that she has been empowered to work independently and strive for her university of choice.

EXCELLENCE
