Sixth Form Life

At George Green’s Sixth Form, we truly believe that our offer is unique and can provide the student with the best learning facility, opportunities and preparations to succeed.

The school has a long and successful history of providing an excellent education and high standards of teaching and support, contributing to high-achieving, respectful, caring individuals, who go on to the university or career of their choice. We pride ourselves on what we are able to offer our students; including:

In 2014, a 13 million pound refurbishment was completed, ensuring our learning facilities are to the highest standard and meet the needs of the whole school community. We are very proud of our facilities, which include specialist teaching area –from science labs to our theatre impressive light and sound systems, well-equipped kitchen, inspiring Learning Resource Centre and dedicated Sixth Form space and garden for private study and relaxation.

Arguably, our greatest resource is our people. George Green’s Sixth Form benefits from strong leadership, teachers and staff, all of whom are dedicated to developing each individual student. Our welcoming and supportive Sixth form focuses on 1:1 support, with systems in place to track individual progress.

We take pride in our picturesque setting in London, looking south across the River Thames to historic Greenwich, only minutes away from Canary Wharf and Central London. We believe that our location provides many benefits to students, allowing enrichment experiences in our exciting capital city and employment opportunities in Canary Wharf.

We work with a number of partners in the City of London, including the Docklands Youth Network, Greenhouse Charity, BP, Barclays, the Livery Companies and many more.

With the Thames and Canary Wharf on our doorstep, the opportunities are endless. We encourage all our students to play an active role in the life of the whole school, and to engage with the community.
Our students make a difference both locally and globally. Helping the community – from home to abroad is something we encourage with student-led projects including:

  • Teaching lower school about gender equality
  • Taking part in our whole school fun run
  • Raising money for charities

Finally, we make the most of fantastic opportunities for learning and personal development. Students benefit from our location between Greenwich and Canary Wharf – from strong links with local universities to mentoring opportunities with international businesses.

At George Green’s Sixth Form Centre of Excellence, we know we are a stepping stone to your future. Our role is to work with you to make it a great future. Our dedicated Sixth Form team give you the one-to-one support to equip you with the skills to take you to the next stage of your life.
Our courses provide both the academic rigour and practical skills that you need to secure a place at a Higher Education Institution, and we have a long (and strong) tradition of helping our students find a place at some of the top universities in the country and overseas.

As an inclusive school, our number one priority is to ensure the educational provision we provide is perfectly tailored to each student. We offer a wide range of courses to meet all students’ learning preferences and future aspirations, and are committed to the individual development of each student.
Our promise to each student is to help develop the skills needed to achieve independent success, and equip each student for the next stage of their life.

The sixth form provides courses which are extremely well suited to the needs of learners. The school’s rigorous and accurate tracking indicates that students are making good progress in the sixth form.
